Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, is a mix of buzzing urban life and incredible natural landscapes. Surrounded by harbors, beaches, and volcanic cones, it’s the perfect base for exploring the North Island. Whether you’re hunting for amazing food, chasing epic views, or diving into arts and culture, Auckland has it all.
For travellers, there’s plenty to plan for: ferries to nearby islands like Waiheke or Rangitoto, short hikes up volcanic cones for city and harbour views, beaches for swimming and walks, and heaps of great cafés, markets, and restaurants. Public transport is decent in some areas, but a car gives you more freedom to explore the outer beaches, wine regions, and hidden spots.
After spending almost 3 years exploring the South Island, we'll soon be heading to the North Island to explore it intensively and show you all the best spots - watch this space!!
