Milford Sound & Fiordland
Milford Sound has been called the 8th wonder of the world and honestly, it’s easy to see why! As soon as you drive into Milford Sound, you're greeted with sheer cliffs rising out of the water, rainforest clinging to the rock faces and hundreds waterfalls crashing straight down into the fjord - it’s one of the most dramatic and unforgettable places in New Zealand and one place you HAVE to visit!
The best way to experience Milford is from the water. Hop on a scenic cruise (or a kayak if you’re feeling adventurous) and you’ll glide past thundering falls like Stirling and Bowen, spot seals sunbathing on the rocks, and maybe even see dolphins or fiordland crested penguins if you’re lucky. There’s even an underwater observatory where you can check out rare black coral and marine life you won’t find anywhere else.
Getting there is half the adventure too, the Milford Road winds through valleys, rainforests, and alpine landscapes, with epic stops like the Mirror Lakes and the Homer Tunnel along the way.
