Taranaki

Taranaki is a dramatic and rugged region on the west coast of the North Island, dominated by the striking cone of Mount Taranaki. It’s a paradise for travellers who love adventure, nature, and exploring off-the-beaten-path corners of New Zealand.

The region’s highlight is Mount Taranaki itself — an almost perfectly symmetrical volcanic peak surrounded by lush native forest. Hikes range from short walks like the Pouakai Circuit with incredible lake reflections of the mountain, to the challenging Summit Track for those chasing epic views from the top. The surrounding Egmont National Park is also full of waterfalls, alpine meadows, and tranquil forest trails.

For coastal adventures, the Surf Highway 45 takes you along rugged beaches, black sand shores, and charming surf towns like New Plymouth and Opunake. New Plymouth is also a hub for art, cafés, and the beautiful coastal walkway, while the region’s gardens, parks, and local markets.

After spending almost 3 years exploring the South Island, we'll soon be heading to the North Island to explore it intensively and show you all the best spots - watch this space!!
