If you’re looking for a peaceful, easy walk to break up your adventures around Franz Josef, I’d highly recommend the Terrace Walk. It’s a lovely little trail that only takes about 30 minutes, making it perfect if you’re traveling with kids or just need a breather from more intense hikes like the glacier walks.
What You’ll ExperienceStarting right in Franz Josef village, the Terrace Walk leads you into a lush rainforest where you’re surrounded by towering tree ferns, moss-covered trees, and a thick canopy overhead. The path is well-maintained, flat, and super easy to follow, so no worries about needing hiking boots or extra gear. We found it the perfect family-friendly walk—our daughters, Arabella and Sienna, had a blast darting down the trail, spotting birds, and just being in nature without us worrying about them.
Even though it’s a short and easy walk, it really feels like you’ve stepped into another world. The rainforest is so quiet and peaceful, with just the sound of birds and the occasional rustle of leaves. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down and just soak in your surroundings.
