Wellington

Wellington, New Zealand’s capital, is a compact city that punches well above its weight when it comes to culture, food, and natural beauty. Nestled between rolling hills and a stunning harbor, it’s a place where vibrant city life meets easy access to beaches, bush walks, and coastal escapes.

The city itself is full of character. Cuba Street is a must for cafés, boutique shops, and street art, while the waterfront offers scenic strolls, harbourside dining, and the Te Papa Museum — one of the best ways to dive into New Zealand’s history and culture. Don’t miss the cable car up to Kelburn for panoramic views over the city and access to the Botanic Garden, where walks through native bush are just steps from downtown.

Wellington is also a base for exploring the surrounding region. Days out to the rugged south coast, harbour islands, and coastal tracks provide a taste of the wild outdoors without straying too far from the city. The food scene is fantastic, with fresh seafood, craft breweries, and local cafés showcasing the region’s produce.

After spending almost 3 years exploring the South Island, we'll soon be heading to the North Island to explore it intensively and show you all the best spots - watch this space!!
