NORTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND
The North Island of New Zealand is the country's most populous island, home to around 75% of the population. It's known for its beautiful beaches, lakes, and forests, as well as its vibrant cities and cultural attractions.
The island is divided into several regions, including Auckland, the country's largest city and home to a diverse population and a thriving arts and culture scene; the Waikato, known for its rolling hills and Hobbiton; and the Bay of Plenty, home to beautiful beaches and many scenic walks.
Other attractions on the North Island include the geothermal area of Rotorua, the ski fields of the Central Plateau, and the Northland region, known for its subtropical climate and beautiful beaches (a little slice of paradise!). The North Island is also home to several national parks, including Tongariro National Park, which features the active volcanoes of Mount Tongariro, Mount Ngauruhoe, and Mount Ruapehu.

IN THE NORTH ISLAND
The North Island of New Zealand is home to a variety of landscapes and natural areas that offer a range of walking and hiking trails for all levels of fitness. Because of the varying landscapes, there are so many walks and hikes that so different to another one 10-minutes down the road. Whether you're looking for a short, easy walk or a longer, more challenging hike, you'll find something to suit your interests and fitness level in the North Island.
MURIWAI WALKING TRACKS
AUCKLAND Many diverse tracks along Muriwai's every changing forests and trails. From dense bush to wind swept trees.

PUHOI LOOP TRACK
AUCKLAND An easy 1km walk that will get the blood pumping and will give your calves a great workout on the stairs.

TE HENGA WALKWAY
AUCKLAND A moderate 7.9km hike through bush and trails to reach the most incredible views! Finish at O'Neill Beach for a swim.

WHANGAREI FALLS
NORTHLAND A powerful 23.6m high waterfall along the Hatea River in central Whangarei. These falls will blow your mind. Remember your raincoat! |
SMUGGLERS BAY LOOP TRACK
NORTHLAND If you want to go to paradise, this is the place! Emerald water, clear rock pools and octopus encounters await you.

These are our favourite beaches & playgrounds around the North Island that we know you'll love too! We love the rugged west coast beaches, the crystal-clear beaches in Northland and the calm east coast beaches with the best sunrises! Of course, our favourite ones have the best shells and gemstones to discover.
MARSDEN BAY BEACH
NORTHLAND Northland has some of the clearest and pristine water in New Zealand and Marsden Cove Beach is a perfect example of that.

BAYLYS BEACH
NORTHLAND If you like isolated areas and the rugged west coast, then Baylys is the right place for you. Explore the cliffs and black sand patterns.

MAUNGANUI BLUFF
NORTHLAND A rugged and wild west coast beach you can drive your 4x4 on and see seals, collect mussels and explore rock pools.

BLACKSMITH'S CREEK WALKWAY
NORTHLAND An easy 2.4km walk out to a jetty where you can spot seals and stringray or catch some fish. Be sure to bring your fishing rod.

KAI IWI LAKES
NORTHLAND These are the clearest lakes we have seen in the North Island. Super clear, sand dunes, trout and exploring. |

BLUEBRIDGE FERRY CROSSING
COOK STRAIT A 3.5 hour experience crossing the Cook Strait from Wellington in the North Island to Picton in the South Island.
